Gates of Heaven

At 37,000 feet, we soared over mountain peaks in the Kluane National Park & Reserve of Canada.
I stayed up all night taking shots of an absolutely surreal atmosphere–more space than earth. What look like clouds below are huge mountain peaks piercing the sky. A purple arc marks a frontier between space and earth.  Above, darkness of outer space.

As everyone aboard the plane either slept or watched movies at 3 a. m. , I alone–with the pilots, possibly–witnessed our ascent into a realm few ever see.

I saw heaven out there…
